Cliff Tombs These pictures are of a structure I made for demonstration games of Wargods of Aegyptus. I was inspired to make this scenery by pictures of cliff tombs. (Remember the third Indiana Jones movie? That too!) The tomb doors on the center and right of the picture are from Grendel and are cast from resin and painted. The tomb on the far left is one I made from Hirst Arts cast plaster blocks. The rocks are sheets of 1” Styrofoam formed with a hot-wire cutter, an X-acto blade fitted into a wood burning handle ,and careful use of a small torch. Afterwards the stone faces were painted with acrylic paints and real fine sand was used to represent the desert areas. The roadway running to the center tomb are Hirst Arts floor tiles. I chose to paint the man-made portions as if they were faded versions of how they would have looked when new. Many archaeologists believe Egyptian statues and buildings were brightly painted in their hey day. I first painted everything stone and dry brushed it, then mixed acrylics to the consistency of water colors to paint the designs. I hope to make a few more pieces of this size so we can get the “Valley of Kings” feel when we set up. The miniatures on this model are from Crocodile Games. I could also imagine using this in either historical New Kingdom Egyptian games or Victorian or Victorian Science Fiction gaming.
